Roll Call Part One

China Adams got scooped up by ACE from the LA undergrad program after performing a categorical gesture by eating a bit of a donor friend's flesh (and notarizing the act) thus rendering herself a "cannibal." Her subsequent career has been full of surprises - for MCPlexM01, Adams composed, reproduced and signed a set of 10 poems in an edition of 50 for public distribution -- held down by an elephant paperweight on an elegant pedestal. One Night Only Poet is Adams' latest -- and a pronouncedly candid and ironic -- engagement with the art-gallery going public.

Suzanne Adelman & Keith Walsh’s collaborative experimental narrative photograph (compressed here for blogtastification – apologies to the artists; it is normally an entirely linear sequence of images, as you will see by clicking on this link) Gran Turismo White Hole Sceptre Cosmos (2010) oscillates between the historical-looking sketches for an abstract geometrical form (presumably a sculpture), off-kilter blurry, double exposed images of light fixtures and architectural details, and the Void.

The multi-faceted artist Michael Arata was behind one of the inspirations for the MCPlexM01 - the legendary semi-guerrilla One Night Stand shows at LA's Farmer's Daughter Motel (and elsewhere) that articulated the lunatic fringe of the local art scene in the mid-90s. For MCPlexM01 he revived and modified one of his classic works of transactional aesthetics, trading freshly BBQ'd hot dogs (served on buns branded with his signature, as above [see below]) for original drawings, which were then mounted on the entrance wall of the gallery. Photo by Arata of Hollywood.
